Kay Layne


Kay Layne's work is abstract expressionism using contrasting and harmonious colors with geometric shapes
imposed over contrasting flat and textured surfaces.

She uses strong colors in either earth tones or sharp arresting colors in opposition to each other.

Ms. Layne grew up in the Texas Panhandle and received her architecture degree from Rice University.  

She worked in Washington, DC on architectural projects diverse as hospitals, prisons, educational facilities, research
facilities, Metro stations, and sports and recreation arenas with Metcalf Associates; Harry Weese & Associates;
Gilbane Building Co.; Chapman, Miller, & Layne (principal); and DMJM (Associate Vice President).  

She is now retired from architecture and continues to live in Washington, D.C.
